Catch Up Post

Now that was a crazy week!

First, my crazy week this week stemmed from the fact that I had a crazy week last week. I was in Anaheim for work at the Expo West convention. It was amazing. There were so many people, vendors, retailers, eco-friendly information, organic, biodegradable, wonderfulness. It was a lot to take in...add actually working the event and I was a tad overwelmed, but in a good way. While I was in my old stomping ground, it was pathetic how much time I didn't have to enjoy being close to friends and family. I saw my best friends for 3 hours, mostly because they were brave enough to make the drive to Anaheim, on a Saturday, during the Expo. 3 hours was almost more like a tease than anything but it was good to see them, regardless.

So, after not being at work for 3 days I got back to work this week behind and VERY behind at that. I'm working on a very time sensitive project and already about 2 months behind schedule. Not my fault but I have to figure out really quick how to make up that time. Can't really do that from 3,000 miles away. This week was insane.

School is also behind. I have not read one page and we're already in week 3. I have projects due. I have finals to think about. I have NO motivation. I'm going to have to lock myself in a room if I'm going to get anything done. Not tomorrow though, because I'm working all day! Why? Because apparently I'm a glutton for punishment and I volunteered to help us get ready for a huge audit coming next week. I don't mind doing it...I just wish I didn't have so much to do at home!

I also have a zillion hats I'd rather be making than doing school work or working. Bummer! ::pouty face::

Nathan had a dr. appt. this week. He is finally being seen for his "lazy eye" issues. We've been told for years that it is just cosmetic and not to worry about it so we didn't. Then, when he enrolled in kindergarten they asked us to get him checked again. They told us it was just cosmetic, no worries he was seeing fine. Then in December he was complaining about headaches and really clumsy. Both his eyes actually have the issue but it's worse in the left and really bad when he is tired, stressed, or sick. He had been stressing in school and while I knew he was smart enough he was having issues reading in school and very frustrated at home. I decided it was time for another check.

This time the doctor said while his sight was fine the strain on keeping his eyes focused was really causing him issues and we needed to see a specialist and possibly consider surgery to "tighten the eye muscles". ::Freak out::

We met with the doctor on Wednesday. She's the 2nd best in the country...so we felt pretty happy that we were going to see someone so well recommended. She told us that not only was our son straining to read but his site was far from normal. While she did think surgery might be an option she wants us to try glasses first. Nathan is SO excited to get glasses and I'm excited about the new vision he's going to have. We have another check up in 2 months but I am happy that at least we can try a non-evasive solution for now.

It is amazing how you have to push sometimes but it just reminds me that when you know there is an issue, especially with your kiddo, you need to keep it in front of the doctors so they do something about it. It is so easy to just let it go. My kid would have suffered longer if we hadn't pushed. :(

Teddy Bear Hat and Diaper Cover

I have a friend whose friend was looking for some props for her shop. I made this diaper cover and hat for her from some patterns she purchased. The yarn for the hat is Light and Lofty Red Heart Yarn in Rocky Mountain. Super cute and soft. I cant wait to see the shots she gets with this cute hat and cover :)

I'm working on a few more patterns for her and then I'll be moving onto finishing a baby blanket that I am farther behind on then I want to be. After that, I hope to keep playing with these patterns and making more fun items to add to my site.

The patterns for these pieces can be found at www.polkadotposh.etsy.com.
