I have always had a problem with my weight. Ever since puberty reared its ugly head, I was chuberiffic. Yep, a regular fatty. There was once in the college days right before I met my husband that I decided NOT to eat and I lost 40 pounds. Then one day I ate again and gained it all back...with some. Then I had a kid and added an extra 20. Then, instead of losing that I gained 20 more with the second.
Now I'm 80 pounds overweight and hating it.
So I've joined www.myfooddiary.com. I tried it before but wasn't committed so I cut my membership. I'm back though. It's a lot like weight watchers but without points, just plain ol' calorie counting and fat intake monitoring. You know, the crappy stuff. I have a goal, it tells me what is good and what is bad. It gives me happy faces for intake of vitamins. It tells me when I eat too much fat or sugar.
I don't plan on taking you all on a weight loss journey but I will keep you updated. I know many have weight issues, so if this site does work for me it might help other readers. Or not.
Time will tell.

Happy 6th Birthday Nathan!!
It is late and I am exhausted but the feeling like I should blog has taken over and hopefully it will go well. This blog post deserves it.
My son was born May 8th, 2005. He tried to be born much earlier than that. In fact, I was only 5 months pregnant when I started having contractions and dialating. It was a horrific idea that I was going to lose this baby I had already come to love so much. I had lost the baby before Nathan and I couldn't imagine going through it again.
So, May 5th I was admitted to the hospital at nearly 8 months pregnant and they decided I had to last until the 8th so I could be exactly 8 months. I was confused why three days made such a difference but they dosed me heavy with medication that made me confused, nervous, and twitchy.
May 8th they finally prepared me for labor and delivery of what would be my first, and most special Mother's Day present.
This year, six years later, Nathan's birthday is once again on Mother's Day and it has hit me very hard how much he has grown. My little tiny 5 pound 6 oz. baby has grown into a very tall, skinny, awkward, loveable, funny, witty, sassy, and over all one of the sweetest children I have ever met.

While most of my time has been spent taking care of our newest family member, my son has growing into a very vibrant, school aged dude. Today, he had a birthday party with friends he has grown up with his whole life and those he recently befriended from school. We decided since EVERY YEAR it rains on his birthday party day we would have his party in a gym. So, today was a gorgeous day for a BBQ and we had 8 little men (and one darling little lady) running around a gym, jumping on trampolines, falling into foam pits, and playing in a jump house. It was SUCH a great time. My kid got to be completely goofy as well as the star of the show. If you have a Kid Sport in town, it's a great place to have a party.

The day was perfect. All his friends were there. The cake was a perfect size and decorated in skate boards (which he loves). All the kids behaved well. Nathan got TONS of new toys (which makes me think about all the ones we need to store away for our next garage sale).
Nathan looked at me and said "Mom, this is really the best day ever."
Epic. Win.
After the party we dropped Jacob off at Mike's parents and took Nathan to a special dinner with mommy, daddy, and our good friends Mara and her mom Allison. We went to a hibachi grill where Nathan was dazzled by the cook. He made sure Nathan felt EXTRA special on his birthday. Sure, it was quite the hit to the pocket book but it was worth it to watch his face as the cook lit the fire on the grill and made a volcano. It was worth it to make this day special.
Then, as if it couldn't have gotten better, we took him for ice cream at cold stone.

He was SO exhausted and so full but so excited! It was a great end to the day and Mike and I got to spend some special time with just our older guy on his special day.
While tomorrow is his actual birthday, we wanted to make sure this day was perfect for him beginning to end and by the sound of the snores in his room right now...we did good!
Tomorrow, I plan on holding my 6 year old as much as he will let me. My very special Mother's Day present is still the most precious gift I was ever given. He gave me the title of MOM. I will never forget how he started from this tiny baby which didn't have much of a chance to this boy who now has the world of opportunities open to him.

NEW Hot off the Hook! Adult Sized Slouchy Beret!!!
My most beautiful friend, Amy, is featuring this hot off the hook, newly crocheted, adult sized beret in "woodlands" colors!

This beret is stunning in person as the blues, browns, reds, and burnt oranges flow perfectly together. I love self stripping yarn! This is from Lions Brand Tweed Strips in Woodlands. It's bulky but very light weight. You hardly feel it's on your head so it is perfect for spring and cool summer nights camping.

The button is MY FAVORITE PART because it's made from a cherry tree branch that has fallen off the ground. The maker is out of Michigan and collects the branches to cut down and resue for buttons! Each button is unique and beautiful. You can find them here.
I've listed this at $30 in my shop. It's 22" wide which is standard size adult but I'll adjust if your head is larger or smaller. If you want it in a baby, kid, or preteen size, please let me know and we can adjust cost.

Catch Up Post
Now that was a crazy week!
First, my crazy week this week stemmed from the fact that I had a crazy week last week. I was in Anaheim for work at the Expo West convention. It was amazing. There were so many people, vendors, retailers, eco-friendly information, organic, biodegradable, wonderfulness. It was a lot to take in...add actually working the event and I was a tad overwelmed, but in a good way. While I was in my old stomping ground, it was pathetic how much time I didn't have to enjoy being close to friends and family. I saw my best friends for 3 hours, mostly because they were brave enough to make the drive to Anaheim, on a Saturday, during the Expo. 3 hours was almost more like a tease than anything but it was good to see them, regardless.
So, after not being at work for 3 days I got back to work this week behind and VERY behind at that. I'm working on a very time sensitive project and already about 2 months behind schedule. Not my fault but I have to figure out really quick how to make up that time. Can't really do that from 3,000 miles away. This week was insane.
School is also behind. I have not read one page and we're already in week 3. I have projects due. I have finals to think about. I have NO motivation. I'm going to have to lock myself in a room if I'm going to get anything done. Not tomorrow though, because I'm working all day! Why? Because apparently I'm a glutton for punishment and I volunteered to help us get ready for a huge audit coming next week. I don't mind doing it...I just wish I didn't have so much to do at home!
I also have a zillion hats I'd rather be making than doing school work or working. Bummer! ::pouty face::
Nathan had a dr. appt. this week. He is finally being seen for his "lazy eye" issues. We've been told for years that it is just cosmetic and not to worry about it so we didn't. Then, when he enrolled in kindergarten they asked us to get him checked again. They told us it was just cosmetic, no worries he was seeing fine. Then in December he was complaining about headaches and really clumsy. Both his eyes actually have the issue but it's worse in the left and really bad when he is tired, stressed, or sick. He had been stressing in school and while I knew he was smart enough he was having issues reading in school and very frustrated at home. I decided it was time for another check.
This time the doctor said while his sight was fine the strain on keeping his eyes focused was really causing him issues and we needed to see a specialist and possibly consider surgery to "tighten the eye muscles". ::Freak out::
We met with the doctor on Wednesday. She's the 2nd best in the country...so we felt pretty happy that we were going to see someone so well recommended. She told us that not only was our son straining to read but his site was far from normal. While she did think surgery might be an option she wants us to try glasses first. Nathan is SO excited to get glasses and I'm excited about the new vision he's going to have. We have another check up in 2 months but I am happy that at least we can try a non-evasive solution for now.
It is amazing how you have to push sometimes but it just reminds me that when you know there is an issue, especially with your kiddo, you need to keep it in front of the doctors so they do something about it. It is so easy to just let it go. My kid would have suffered longer if we hadn't pushed. :(

Teddy Bear Hat and Diaper Cover
I have a friend whose friend was looking for some props for her shop. I made this diaper cover and hat for her from some patterns she purchased. The yarn for the hat is Light and Lofty Red Heart Yarn in Rocky Mountain. Super cute and soft. I cant wait to see the shots she gets with this cute hat and cover :)
I'm working on a few more patterns for her and then I'll be moving onto finishing a baby blanket that I am farther behind on then I want to be. After that, I hope to keep playing with these patterns and making more fun items to add to my site.
The patterns for these pieces can be found at www.polkadotposh.etsy.com.
